The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.
Sheriff Marty Arganbright updated the Board on the formation of a committee to discuss the building of a new County Jail. He has gathered a list of names and will be sorting through them over the next few days. The Board suggested the committee include two members per district, and not be made up entirely of public officials.
Arganbright, who currently can’t act on approximately 30 warrants due to no space at the jail, reiterated a common occurrence in regards to lack of separation. “We had a female over the weekend. We had to put her in the visitation room which is not a lockdown place. No bathrooms on the floor. It’s not safe either.”
A jail construction consultant will be at next week’s Supervisors’ meeting, as will prospective committee members. County Public Health Director Jotham Arber also updated the Board on the recent emergency management exercise. He said the exercise went very well and that outside officials were impressed with the County’s teamwork in executing the operations. Arber and County Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Kent Irwin spent a little over 1700 hours preparing for the exercise.
