severe thunderstorm

Severe Thunderstorms crossed Dallas and Guthrie counties from south to north Tuesday evening, prompting the Raccoon Valley Radio Severe Weather Action Team to provide coverage of the storm.

The first storm cropped up at 6 p.m. around Earlham, moving northwest through central Dallas County and eastern Guthrie. The hazards included torrential rain, hail, and straight line winds. A second storm reached severe levels at 6:12 p.m. over Dallas Center, with the same hazards of the first. Trained storm spotters reported up to penny-sized hail near Earlham and Adel, and there were other reports of trees being blown over and branches falling. The first warning was allowed to expire at 6:30, and the second expired shortly after at 6:45.

Seven members of the Severe Weather Action Team participated in the live coverage, as did Weather Eye meteorologists and local residents who called in. Whenever storms reach severe conditions in our listening area, count on Raccoon Valley Radio to keep you informed and safe.
