The Perry Public Library is ready for their “Discover Space” summer reading program, and it will officially take off this Saturday with the annual Kids Fest celebration.
Library Director Mary Murphy says the event will run from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the library, the parking lot, and the Carnegie Library Museum. She’s excited for Kids Fest this year, particularly because of how it will incorporate the summer reading program theme. “We have titled it ‘Discover Space Camp,’ so we’re going with the theme of Discover Space and having our exhibit be something everybody can experience over the weekend. Plus other things space campy. So it’s a family-friendly event, everybody can come and then have a good time for three hours. A lot of different things to experience.”
Some of the activities include: a station run by Dallas County Conservation that will focus on micrometeorites; a robot arm station demonstrating how repairs are done on the International Space Station; making comets at the Carnegie; and kid-friendly activities like face-painting, balloon creations, farm animals, and games. Also, the Perry Volunteer Fire Department will once again offer lunch for $1, which will include a hot dog or pork sandwich, chips, water, and a cookie.
Additionally, the Raccoon Valley Radio Big Red Radio will be there broadcasting live, playing music, and providing public address announcements. To learn more about Kids Fest, listen to Thursday’s Perry Fareway Let’s Talk Dallas County program.
