Unlike their softball counterparts, the ACGC baseball team would certainly like to forget their first week of play. The Chargers have struggled out of the gate with an 0-3 start, giving up 30 runs in the opening trio of performances. They’ll have a chance to bounce back when they welcome the 0-2 Woodward Academy Knights to Guthrie Center.
The Knights are the only team in the West Central Activities Conference that allowed more runs in the opening week of play than the Chargers. Madrid blanked the Knights in the opener on Tuesday 21-0 and Earlham added to the run tally with a 17-4 victory on Thursday. Last season, the Chargers outscored the Knights 27-4 in their two meetings.
Senior Quenton Spack will likely draw the assignment on the mound tonight. In the opening loss to Audubon, Spack pitched just two innings against the Wheelers, tallying three strikeouts and allowing four earned runs. At the plate, senior Caden Wardyn and junior Ben Kingery have begun the season with a hit in each of the opening three games. They will look to keep that streak going and leave Panorama and the Knights as the only two winless teams left in the conference.
Due to impending weather, the game was moved up to 5pm.
