Dallas Co Sheriff Badge

Now that we’re passed Memorial Day, summer has unofficially begun. With that in mind, Dallas County Sheriff Chad Leonard reminds motorists that traffic on the roads will be considerably different in the coming months, and it creates an assortment of driving hazards.

“You got to remember, there’s slow-moving vehicles pulling boats (and) campers, a lot of motorcycles. A lot of blind spots when you’re dragging your camper down the road. The accidents that I recall from working the road over the years are inexperienced drivers, they might (have) bought their first camper and not used to looking out the side mirrors and looking for motorcycles and stuff. A lot of trucks have to get the extended mirrors to look past these fancy campers. And so just take the time, it takes you extra time to be safe.”

Leonard emphasizes that many accidents can be prevented if people put their cell phones away while driving, and reminds them that they can be cited for texting while driving. To hear more from Leonard, listen to today’s Perry Fareway Let’s Talk Dallas County program.
