The first victory of the 2018 season came last Thursday for the Panorama Panthers softball team (1-1 overall). The Panthers held off the Madrid Tigers for a 6-5 win in West Central Activities Conference play in Panora. Panorama scored all six runs before the fifth inning while all five of Madrid’s runs came after the fourth inning. Senior Kellie Prince reached base safely four times, including three base hits and a walk, scoring two runs and driving in another. Junior Olivia Richey recorded the Panthers win in the circle. She pitched all seven innings, allowing five runs, three earned, on eight hits, walking one and striking out 10 Tigers batters. The victory evens Panorama’s overall and West Central Activities Conference record at 1-1. The Panthers suffered a 12-0 loss at Des Moines Christian in four innings to open the season last Tuesday.
