The high school athletic career of Adel-Desoto-Minburn senior Micah Moyer ended last Friday at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge. The Tigers’ top golfer placed fifth individually in the final Class 3A Boys State Golf standings with a 36 hole score of 149. Moyer opened the event with a five over 78 on Thursday. He shaved seven strokes off his final round score with a one-under 71. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network ran into Moyer after the conclusion of ADM’s Boys Soccer game versus Dallas Center-Grimes. He shares weather conditions played a role in his first 18 hole round score. “The first, it was tough conditions, it was windy,” Moyer said, “My game was solid, just a couple bad shots here and there that killed (my score) which cost me to play that bad. Coming back the second day, knowing what I can do and knowing what I needed to do, I came back strong with one of the best rounds of my life.”

His second-day scorecard featured an eagle on the course’s Par 5 18 hole, solidifying Moyers spot on the Class 3A first team all-state boys golf squad. He says being apart of the all-state team means a lot to him. “(I was) hoping to get there last year but falling short, getting ninth place (and) coming back stronger this year,” Moyer said, “Knowing what I can do and what the competition is like and I did what I needed to do, it was satisfying looking at the leaderboard at the end.”

Moyer was a three-sport athlete at ADM Community Schools as a senior, competing for the Tigers’ cross country, basketball, and golf programs. He will continue playing golf next spring for the Iowa Western Community College Reivers Men’s Golf team.
