Less than nine hours from returning late Friday night from a season opening 12-10 victory in Des Moines over Saydel, the Greene County softball team was playing Class 4A Boone in the Ogden tournament. Greene County lost to the Toreadors 13-0 in three innings by the 12-run rule. They later played Martensdale-St. Mary’s and dropped that game, 8-1. The early evening finale in Ogden resulted in a 14-5 loss to Webster City. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team next plays on Tuesday at 1A Coon Rapids-Bayard, their fifth straight away from home to start the season.

The Toreadors took command early against the Rams by scoring six runs in the top of the first inning. Greene County did not get a hit in the three innings of play, but they did have three base runners on walks. Jenna Beyers took the pitching loss and she was relieved by Samantha Hardaway.

Hardaway pitched vs. M-St.M.Seven of the runs scored by the Blue Devils were earned. The Rams had mustered four hits. Danielle Hoyle doubled for the only extra base hit. Jenna Beyers singled twice and Hardaway singled once. Faith Davis drove in the only Greene County run.

Webster City broke open a 2-1 game by scoring 10 times in the third for a 12-1 lead. Hardaway was the starting and losing pitcher with Byers throwing in relief. Beyers had two singles and one run batted in, with Faith Davis also collecting two singles. Lilly Muir doubled and Paige Heaning added a run scoring base hit. Hardaway and Carmyn Paup also had singles.
