The postseason has arrived for the Greene County High School boys’ soccer team. Coach Carl Behne’s Rams play Unity Christian (Orange City) at 5 p.m. today in Denison in a Class 1A Substate 1 quarterfinal. The Rams are 9-8 and average 3.70 goals per game while giving up just 2.63 goals per contest. The Knights are 2-11 and take a seven match losing streak into the postseason. UC averages just one goal per match while allowed an average of 4.65 goals per contest.
The Rams have two players with more goals scored than the entire Unity Christian team. Leo Marques is Iowa’s second leading goal scorer with 32, and Junior Gutierrez has 14 goals.
Today’s winner plays on Wednesday of this week in vs. either Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) or Western Christian (Hull).
The Greene County girls complete their soccer regular season today in Grand Junction vs. Des Moines Christian. It’s also Senior Night for the Rams. The varsity match is set for 5:30 p.m. with the JV to follow.
