Seniors at West Central Valley High School will participate in their commencement ceremony tomorrow morning. Though their festivities began earlier this week during Tuesday’s High School Awards Night.
Several seniors were honored with scholarships and other awards. Garret Caltrider, who will head to the University of Iowa to study biomedical engineering, received the Governor’s Scholar Award for outstanding academic achievement. William “Billy” Larsen and Grace Dupuy, who will be participating in football at Graceland University and Track and Field at the University of Dubuque respectively, were named the male and female athletes of the year. Alexander Kalbach, who will be studying criminal justice at Graceland, also received the inaugural Stuart Fire Community Outreach Scholarship.
Superintendent Dr. David Arnold is proud of this year’s senior class. “I think we have a good group of kids going through. I think we have some hard working kids, they’re motivated. I wish them the best in the years to come and encourage them to focus on what their goals are and get it done as fast as you can.”
Commencement begins at 11am tomorrow in the high school gymnasium. This year’s Commencement Speaker is WCV Middle School science teacher Todd Boender. To hear more on the end of the year at West Central Valley, listen to Arnold on today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
