The road to the Class 2A State Golf tournament rolls through Panora tomorrow. The Lake Panorama National Golf Course is hosting the Class 2A District Golf Tournament featuring golfers from Albia, Des Moines Christian, Earlham, Panorama, PCM (Monroe), Pleasantville, and Van Meter. The top two lowest scoring teams and the two best results outside of the two lowest scoring teams will advance to the Class 2A State Golf Tournament May 24-25 at the American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown.

Panorama will compete as a team in the district meet after finishing second in last Friday’s sectional tournament at the 5 x 80 golf course near Menlo. Sophomore Kolby Shackelford recorded meet medalist honors with an 18 hole round 71. First-year students made up the final three scores, and all came in under 87 strokes. Panorama head boys golf coach David Van Ahn was a guest on Monday’s Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Guthrie County PM Sports Page, and he raved about the improvement made by his first-year high school golfers. “To give you an example, Ryan Klinge, at the conference meet shot a 103,” Van Ahn said, “We go down to 5 x 80, playing 18 holes there, and he shoots an 81.”

Van Ahn added Lucas Lieferman made similar improvements from the conference meet, lowering his score by 16 full strokes. Wyatt Appleseth was one shot off his conference mark with an 86. The Class 2A District Golf Tournament tees off at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Lake Panorama National Golf Course in Panora.
