This week is National Police Week, and citizens are encouraged to offer their thanks to the law enforcement officials who keep their communities safe.

Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn says he likes observing police week so he can thank his officers for all they do to help make the department run smoothly. Vaughn adds, while he’s appreciative that there’s a whole week where people are encouraged to recognize the work police officers do, he finds that most of the time people don’t need an excuse to praise their work.

“Especially over the past few years, we get of a lot of appreciation and recognition from people on the streets almost daily, it seems like. I think people have recognized some of the tough jobs that we do, and some of the cases that we’ve worked. Barely a day goes by when somebody doesn’t stop me — whether it be here in town or somebody that recognizes me outside of town — and thanks us in appreciation of the job we do. And I’d just like to say ‘Thank you, everybody, for recognizing that.’”
