Jefferson residents have another place to take their yard waste to if they don’t want to burn it or leave it out to be collected with regular trash.
The City provides a yard waste dump site, located at Daubendiek Park. Residents are allowed to dump items such as grass clippings, leaves, brush and concrete. Whole trees are not allowed. The yard waste site is available to Jefferson residents only, which excludes commercial businesses from utilizing the site as well. A recent change was that every property owner, within the city limits, pays $1 for the site to be maintained. The money generated helps to offset the cost for a company to chip all of the material down and haul it away.
City Administrator Mike Palmer tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the annual spring cleanup week was also a success with 121 tons of garbage collected. He adds that residents have been using the yard waste site responsibility and that it is kept clean and policed by the residents as well. The yard waste site is open all year round.
