The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
The Board had a lengthy discussion with Greene County Emergency Medical Services Co-Owner Dennis Morlan. Morlan told the Board that he’s had to deal with health issues over the past year, which has forced him to no longer be as physically active with EMS as he has been. The Board felt like they didn’t want the ambulance service to be County-based, but are willing to help with any transitions that will need to be made. The target date for Morlan and his wife to transition out of EMS is by July 1st. No formal decision was made by the Board following the initial discussion.
The Board approved the County Treasurer’s investment report of $6,237,657 for April, along with issuing 263 driver’s licenses last month. Additionally, the Board approved the updated Public Health Emergency Response Plan as presented. They also set May 29th at 9am as the public hearing date for a budget amendment for the current fiscal year.
The Board heard an Iowa Drainage District Association update from John Torbert. He reminded the Supervisors that following last year’s federal court decision to dismiss the lawsuit from Des Moines Public Works on water quality that the Supervisors do not have the authority to regulate drainage tiles, but that the Trustees do. He also spoke about the impacts the newly signed water quality bill from the Iowa legislature would have on drainage districts.
Finally, during open forum, Assistant Greene County Attorney Thomas Laehn addressed the Board about improving policies when it comes to meeting with domestic and sexual assault victims in the county attorney’s office. The Board took no formal action following the discussion.
