A large contingent of ACGC track and field athletes will make the trek to Drake Stadium in Des Moines for the State Track and Field Meet this Thursday-Saturday. While past state qualifiers are familiar with the iconic blue oval, two in particular have competed there less than a month prior at the Drake Relays.

Sophomore Kate Crawford, a 2017 state qualifier and 2018 Drake Relays qualifier, hopes that experience will come in handy come race time. “Well I definitely know what to expect now. It’s not so new to me like it was last year as a freshman. So I’m just going to use my second year of knowledge to my advantage and hope it helps me out.”

Junior Mady McDermott also competed in this year’s Drake Relays, although unlike the April competition, McDermott will add the discus to her entry list as she placed 2nd Thursday at the state qualifying meet in Van Meter.
