A portion of Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center’s fall musical has earned them state honors. Their “Wizard of Oz” performance won the “Most Distinguished Scene Award” for the “Scarecrow/If I Only Had a Brain” scene as part of the Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards.
As part of the award, Audrey Stowe (Dorothy), Matthew Hanner (Scarecrow), and Maggie Maas (Dance/Ensemble Member) will participate in the awards showcase on Monday, June 4th at 7pm at the Des Moines Civic Center. The showcase will recognize 68 Iowa schools and will include a collaborative, inter-school medley. This is the first year the school has participated in the awards program.
Musical Director Kelsey Moran tells Raccoon Valley Radio the showcase is essentially Iowa’s High School version of the Tony Awards. She also says the program serves as a chance to improve the school’s theater department overall and gives her students the opportunity to share the stage with kids from metro schools.
Tickets for the showcase will go on sale next Wednesday.
