The 2018 Perry Public Library summer reading program will be a lot different from previous years, because this year they’re hosting a special exhibit that’s been years in the making.
Children’s Librarian Suzanne Kestel says they are excited to bring in the “Discover Space” exhibit, and they’ve tailored the entire program around the universe outside Earth’s atmosphere. To get things started, Kestel says they’ll be hosting an event this Friday. “We have been planning for this for years, but finally ‘Discover Space’ has come and landed at the Perry Public Library. So we will be having our ‘Blast Off’ on May the Fourth. And this is for all ages, so everyone is able to come in and just interact with the different kiosks that we have.”
Kestel adds, the “Discover Space” exhibit will be at the library through July, so people will have plenty of time to experience all it has to offer. However, those who attend the “Blast Off” event will get a chance to enter for a prize. At the event, attendees will get a card to check off that they tried each kiosk. Once all the cards are turned in, there will be a drawing with the grand prize being a family pack to the Science Center of Des Moines.
The “Blast Off” event will start at 6 p.m. this Friday, and Kestel reminds everyone that registrations for this year’s summer reading program can also be done at the event. To learn more, stop in or call the library at 515-465-3569.
