The Iowa Department of Transportation has announced three road projects that will start later this summer in Greene County.
Jefferson Resident Construction Engineer Jenny Hoskins says the first project will be on Iowa Highway 144 from Grand Junction to Perry. The contractor, InRoads Paving from Des Moines, will mill down the top two-inches of concrete and apply a four-inch asphalt overlay to the entire road. InRoads will also pave part of the shoulder and apply rumble strips in the designated stop sign areas. Hoskins points out that because the project is in two different districts, the work will be split up in both Greene and Dallas counties. The late start date for the projects is June 4th.
The final project is an asphalt overlay on Iowa Highway 4 in Jefferson from Lincoln Way to US Highway 30. Hoskins says InRoads will do some patching work, prior to applying the four-inch asphalt overlay. She adds that the contractor will also do some curb and sidewalk work along the road, while skipping over the overpass bridge entirely. When the asphalt overlay starts, traffic will be limited to one lane in both the north and south direction and will alternate when one side of the road is complete. Hoskins notes that due to the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) coming through Jefferson on July 23rd, the project will not start until July 30th.
The total cost of all of the projects is $5.9 million.
