A four-game Raccoon River Conference stretch for the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers girls soccer team opened Friday evening at ADM Stadium. The Bondurant-Farrar Bluejays (5-5 overall) paid a visit to Dallas County for the team’s yearly league match. ADM scored within the first three minutes of the game and ultimately came away with a 3-1 victory.
Tiger senior Sydney Canney registered her first goal of the season in the opening minutes of the contest. Senior Jordan Hook padded the ADM lead with a goal in the 29th minute to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime. ADM head girls soccer coach Kelsey Gaffney spoke with Raccoon Valley Radio after the game and said leading 2-0 at the break is an uncomfortable spot to be at halftime. “Because we think we are up and we have the game in the bag, and they score and then it’s a close game again.” Gaffney said, “That’s what happened in the second half, they score on a beautiful free kick, and we kept pounding away in the second half, and we found a way to put one in the back of the net.
Bondurant Farrar did cut the deficit in half in the 62nd minute on an Emily De Costa free kick from nearly 25 yards out. After a competitive stretch of teams fighting for control, ADM sophomore Josi Lonneman headed in the game securing goal in the 75th minute. Sophomore goalkeeper Delaney Bertman registered six saves in the win. ADM returns to the field tonight in Boone in a Raccoon River Conference match against the Toreadors. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Bonne High School.
