ADM Tigers

A critical error by Gilbert’s goalkeeper in the second half helped the #11 Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers boys soccer team (3-0 overall) pull off to a come from behind victory in overtime Tuesday night. Trailing 1-0 with 26 minutes remaining in regulation ADM senior Davis Barton was racing down the far sideline towards the goal when Gilbert’s goalkeeper, Christian Graber, knocked into Barton outside the 18-yard box. ADM head boys soccer coach Bill Shields told Raccoon Valley Radio after the game that the play made by Gilbert’s keeper was illegal. “He basically pulled Davis (Barton) down,” Shields said, “Denying a goal scoring opportunity (by the keeper outside the box) is a red card. It’s unfortunate on his part because he’s a really good keeper.”

The red card not only lost Graber in the net for Gilbert but also gave ADM a man advantage on the field for the rest of the match. Barton capitalized on the man advantage in the 71st minute, scoring the equalizer just inches below the top crossbar. The final nine minutes of regulation was scoreless, and the game went into overtime. Two minutes into the first overtime period, ADM scored the game-winner from senior Gage Fuller off a corner kick assist from Dakota Kahler.

The victory improves ADM to 3-0 on the season, while the loss drops Gilbert to 4-1 overall. The Tigers enter Raccoon River Conference play Thursday in Huxley in a league match versus the Ballard Bombers (0-3 overall).
