earthday2005

Earth Day is coming up on April 22nd, and leading up to it this week, Perry Elementary and St. Patrick’s Catholic School will be participating in Earth Week activities.

The schools are partnering with the City and Hy-Vee to educate and entertain students with three interactive events. On Wednesday, the focus will be on recycling, and each classroom at both schools have been collecting toilet paper tubes. Whichever class collects the most will get a pizza party from Hy-Vee. Additionally, Brian Eiteman from Perry’s Recycling Center will talk with students at Perry Elementary at 10 a.m., and at St. Pat’s at noon.

On Thursday, Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson will visit the schools at 2 and 2:45 p.m., respectively, and he will give a talk on what the City does to be Earth-friendly. Finally, on Friday, Parks and Recreation Director John Anderson and Parks Supervisor Kevin Kenealy will help students plant trees. They will be at Perry Elementary at 1 p.m., and St. Pat’s at 2. In case of rain on Friday, tree-planting will be rescheduled for next Monday.
