The Perry City Council convened Monday evening in regular session.
One of the first items on the agenda was a public hearing to discuss the proposed contract documents, estimated costs, and bids received for the Wiese Park Trail improvement project. The Council discussed continued concerns regarding the safety of pedestrians if bicyclists decide to use the trail, though they ultimately decided to deal with that should issues arise. Following the hearing, the Council approved the low bid for the project, which was $42,555 from a local contractor, Landals Corporation. The bid was nearly 40% lower than the engineer’s estimate.
Other action items that were approved included: pay requests for work completed on the soccer complex and Willis Avenue bridge projects; appointing Abraham Cardenas and Mark Colton as the City’s Compliance Officers; an application for the City to be re-designated as an “Iowa Great Places” location; and setting May 7th as the date for a public hearing regarding the Park Street widening project. Additionally, The Council approved a resolution opposing a reduction in the backfill, which will be submitted to the state legislature.
