Five of the six Greene County high school sports teams are in action today. The boys’ golf team gets things going at 9 o’clock this morning by playing in the Des Moines Christian tournament at the Jester Park golf course. This will be just the second meet of the season for coach Dave Destival’s Rams.
Coach Heath Telleen’s girls’ golfers play at make up meet at 4 p.m. at The Hill near Grand Junction with Gilbert. The Rams are 2-3 so far in girls’ golf and are coming off a second place finish in a four-team meet on Tuesday at Huxley.
Both track & field squads have meets today. The boys travel to Saydel High School in Des Moines for a 14-team boys’ only meet at 4:30 p.m. Coach Chad Morton’s team finished in second place among seven teams on Tuesday at the Carroll Coed Relays, which were held in Jefferson due to renovations at Carroll Athletic Field. Coach Derek Merk’s Greene County girls originally thought they placed second on Tuesday at the Carroll Coed, but Thursday morning found out they actually won the event. It seems the 10 points Megan Durbin earned for winning the high jump, were left out of the team score. Add in those points and Greene County had 120 points to IKM-Manning’s 116. Then it was Webster City 98, Carroll 97, Woodward-Granger 45, Perry 43, Roland-Story 38, and 32 for Audubon. The Rams are at Perry’s meet today starting at 4:30 p.m.
The only home event today is boys’ soccer where Carl Behne’s 3-0 Rams host 0-1 Ballard (Huxley) in Grand Junction. The varsity match is set for 5:30 p.m. with the JV match to follow.
