The Adel City Council convened Tuesday evening in regular session.
The meeting began with a public hearing to discuss a proposed annexation of 309 acres south of the City. The hearing lasted about 90 minutes, with 22 city and county residents speaking, some voicing their concerns and others their support. Following the hearing, the Council unanimously approved the annexation. They also held a second public hearing to discuss a State Revolving Fund (SRF) loan for proposed improvements to the City’s drinking water system. No action was taken at the meeting following the hearing, but it will be discussed further at a later date.
Another contested topic was the relocation of a No Parking sign on South 11th Street. Residents for the change pointed out safety concerns that it’s difficult to see oncoming traffic with cars parked on the street. Opponents said there would be a lack of parking for residents and their guests. In the end, the Council approved moving the sign one light pole south. Other action items approved included: all three readings of revisions to the water ordinance; adopting the multi-jurisdictional local hazard mitigation plan; and a special event application for the 2018 Sweet Corn Festival.
They also discussed, but took no action on, a revised 28E agreement with Dallas County for road maintenance. City lawyers will review the document before the Council can approve it. The Council’s next meeting will be a special strategic planning session on Monday, April 23rd at 6 p.m. in the Adel Library community room.
