After weather postponements earlier in the week, the high school golf season began on Thuesday for the Greene County teams. The girls were third in a triangular to Perry and Des Moines Christian at The Hill near Grand Junction, while the boys faced the same teams at the Perry Golf & Country Club.

Girls’ coach Heath Telleen saw his team shoot 203 for the nine holes. DMC had 192 and Perry shot 199. Greene County played without two-time state qualifier Rachael Danielson as she recovers from knee surgery. Ellie Madson led the Rams with a 44, followed by Mariah Block at 50, Kaitlyn McColley 54, and 55 for Jordan Davis.

Alyssa Kruger of Perry was medalist with a round of 41.

Coach Tellen said of his team and the first meet of the season, “I was really happy with our scores tonight and am excited to see what this team can accomplish as the season moves on. 203 is one of the lowest team scores we’ve had in the four seasons I have been coaching. Ellie Madson, Jordan Davis, and Mariah Block all shot career bests.”

Boys’ coach Dave Destival reported senior Elijah Block shot 38 at Perry for runner-up medalist honors. He added the other Rams shot four or five strokes higher than they would have preferred.
