An early April cold spell couldn’t keep the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers boys soccer team (1-0 overall) from beginning their season Monday evening. The #11 team in Class 2A opened up at home as the Caroll Tigers came to ADM Stadium for their annual Raccoon River Conference meeting. Four ADM seniors accounted for six total goals, posting a shutout victory to open the 2018 season. Eli Schwarzkorf accounted for one-third of ADM’s scoring last night. He told Raccoon Valley Radio after that game that it was a quality way to open the new season. “We know in the past, we haven’t exactly played to our strengths at the beginning of the season,” Schwarzkopf said, “Today, I feel like we had a slow start then we started picking up a little bit. Finally got Davis (Barton) up at striker so we could connect some passes and get some goals.”
The first goal of the season came 14 minutes into the match off the foot of Dakota Kahler. Schwarzkopf’s initial goal of the season came in the 34th minute, and the Tigers took a 2-0 lead into the halftime locker room. Barton’s move to striker came roughly 15 minutes into the second half, and the Tigers responded with four additional goals in the final 25 minutes. Barton accounted for two of the four goals, Swarzkopf registered one, and Herberto Ponce closed ADM’s senior scoring barrage. ADM’s defense was equally good, allowing no shots on goal and kept senior TJ Klocke without a save.
The victory moved ADM to 1-0 on the season. The Tigers return to ADM Stadium Friday evening for the start of their annual round robin tournament. ADM opens the event against Council Bluffs, St Alberts at 7:30 p.m.
