acgcLast month the Adair-Casey and Guthrie Center school boards met in a joint session to discuss the search structure for the district’s next superintendent. Current Superintendent Steve Smith announced earlier this year that he will be retiring at the end of the 2018-2019 school year.

Guthrie Center School Board President Wes Policky and the rest of the representatives discussed some key qualities they would like to see in their next superintendent. “Someone that’s visible in the community like Steve (Smith) is. Someone who just is a good sounding board, who is really readily available. One who attends our kids’ activities…I just think the overall relationship aspect of it is something we’ll really probably focus in on as well when we do begin to really solidify what traits we want.”

Policky emphasizes that the discussions are fluid and will continue as the search schedule begins to take shape. He says the boards will likely use a search firm, and will look at collecting applications for the next superintendent this fall.
