The Perry girls soccer team will launch a brand new season tonight weather permitting when they travel to Earlham to take on Winterset in both the RRC and season opener. Gilmar Guerra returns for another season of guiding the Jayettes and will look to improve on their 11-6 mark from a season ago. This season will be extra special for the Jayette Head Coach as he will have his final chance to coach his daughter Sydney, who will graduate this spring and play soccer next year at Kansas City. The young Guerra has been a mainstay in the Perry lineup and says soccer has always been a part of her life.
“I learned to play soccer when I was very young, like around three years old,” smiled the energetic senior. “Soccer is really important around Perry and there are so many opportunities to play and I loved playing for my father. I’m looking forward to this season and to try and get our team to state for the first time.”
Perry has had two near misses qualifying for state losing in the last 2 substate finals.
