A historic downtown Coon Rapids building was destroyed by an overnight fire Wednesday. Sources say the fire engulfed the Independent Order of Odd Fellows building, located on the north side of the block between 5th and 6th Avenues. A passerby alerted authorities to the fire Wednesday night at around 11:30 pm.
The fire was contained to the building and did not spread to the Post Office or Northside Recreation Parlor. A tenant occupying the upstairs apartment was able to safely evacuate and there were no injuries reported as a result of the fire. The 1911 building was previously owned by Doug and Cheryl King, but recently sold to Robbie Lyons and Cherie Block, all of Coon Rapids. Firefighters from Dedham, Bayard, and Carroll assisted at the scene. There is no definitive cause at this time and the fire remains under investigation. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information, as it becomes official.
