Dallas County was recently named one of the healthiest communities in the United States, according to a study by U.S. News and World Report.

The study ranked counties on a 1-100 scale in several categories, ranging from overall health score, to food and nutrition, to community vitality. Dallas County’s overall score was 82.5, ranking 47th in the nation and 2nd in Iowa behind Winneshiek County. The state average is 66, and the U.S. average is 52.3. The study showed Dallas was well ahead of the curve in average life expectancy at 81.5 years, smoking rate at 14.8%, and population with no health insurance at just 5%. The national average in each of those areas is 77.9 years, 17.3%, and 12.9%, respectively.
