After Wednesday’s county filing deadline, twelve candidates for various Guthrie County offices will be listed in the June primary election. Of the twelve, nearly half are running for the same position. Four Republican candidates and one Democratic candidate are seeking the County Supervisor District Three office, currently held by Everett Grasty. Grasty’s challengers for the seat include: republicans Scott Calmer, Randy Sparks, and Joel Hester, and former Supervisor Kevin Wirt, a democrat.
The other two Supervisor districts each have two candidates filed for the primaries. Current District 2 Supervisor Clifford Carney will seek re-election and will be challenged by fellow Republican Rick Kness. Republicans J.D. Kuster and Dana Tews will run for the District 4 seat to be vacated by Tom Rutledge at the end of this year.
County Recorder Tristen Richard (R) and County Treasurer Marci Schreck (R) are listed as unopposed for their offices. Brenna Bird (R), a candidate for County Attorney, is also currently running unopposed as current Attorney Mary Benton did not file her nomination papers by Wednesday’s deadline. Candidates can still be nominated by their respective party for the general election in November.
