If preseason confidence can translate to the regular season, the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers boys soccer team could be in for a promising campaign this spring. ADM welcomed Class 2A defending state champion Norwalk to Adel for scrimmages Tuesday between the school’s freshman, junior varsity, and varsity squads. ADM won two of the three scrimmages, including a 1-0 victory for the Tigers varsity squad. ADM head boys soccer coach Bill Sheilds tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the lone goal came off the foot of senior Eli Schwarzkopf just before halftime, and the Tigers used good ball control in the second half to preserve the win. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network spoke to five senior members of ADM’s boys soccer team Wednesday afternoon including Davis Barton, Gage Fuller, Dakota Kahler, Ethan Meyer, and Schwarzkopf about multiple storylines ahead of Monday’s season opener. Fuller says even though it was a scrimmage, the victory was sweet for ADM. “In the history of our program, we’ve never beaten Norwalk before,” Fuller said, “Especially them being the defending state champs, it felt really good to come in here and do our thing and get the win.”
Barton adds winning the time of possession battle is important to this year’s squad. “If they don’t have the ball, they can’t (score) on us mentality,” Barton said, “We got to keep possession, and hopefully if we play well, we should do well.”
The ADM freshman was able to top Norwalk, 2-0, while the Warriors junior varsity squad topped ADM, 5-0. The ADM varsity boys soccer team kicks off their season Monday when the Carroll Tigers visit ADM Stadium for a Raccoon River Conference match. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
