Dallas Co Supervisors 3-27

The Dallas County Board of Supervisors convened Tuesday morning in regular session.

County Engineer Al Miller brought several topics before the Board, including a resolution to approve the vacation of a portion of Q Court near Van Meter at a landowner’s request, which was approved. They also discussed but took no action on a road maintenance 28E agreement with Van Meter, and a request by landowners to vacate a portion of 288th Trail near Adel. At 9:30 a.m., the Board continued a public hearing from last week about a rezoning request. There were additional items that needed to be taken care of, so it was tabled for one more week.

Next, the Supervisors approved the updated hazard mitigation plan, which was submitted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Other items approved included: an out-of-state travel request from the Human Resources Department; an agreement with the City of Waukee for a parking fine 28E agreement; and appointments to the County Board of Health. Finally, the Board listened to an update on the new law enforcement center, and approved the first pay application from the Samuels Group in the amount of $275,649.62.

Additionally, during open forum, John Thomas, the Union Representative for the Secondary Roads Department, asked the Board to consider giving the department more compensation time than what was outlined in the updated employee handbook. His wishes were echoed by Miller, though the topic was tabled for a week so the Supervisors could better consider their request. The meeting concluded with a closed session to discuss the purchase of real estate.
