West Central Valley Wildcat

While golf is considered a spring sports option in Iowa, the weather doesn’t always cooperate for daily practice for high school students. Traca Waddle is entering her third spring as the girl’s golf coach at West Central Valley Community Schools and was a guest on last night’s Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Guthrie County PM Sports. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio on days when the weather’s warm enough, her golfers practice at the 5×80 course near Menlo. On rain-soaked, overcast days like yesterday, they’re limited to work they can do inside. “When we’re indoors, we do have several different options for putting but hitting the ball inside is difficult,” Waddle said, “We also have a lot of rule videos we go through and a lot of etiquette.”

The Wildcats have three out for girls golf including juniors Darby Davis and Jaicee Wathne and freshman Emma Johnson. The West Central Valley girls golf season tees off Friday at the Pine Knolls Country Club in Knoxville in a nonconference triangular against Knoxville and Clarke.
