More and more signs about the upcoming Greene County School District bond referendum are appearing in the City of Jefferson.
City officials are reminding property owners that any signs that encourage an action on any matter of a ballot, either for a general or special election, must not be placed in the City’s right-of-way. The right-of-way typically is the “parking” area of a property, or the section between the street and the back of a sidewalk. Those properties without a sidewalk, but include utility poles and/or fire hydrants, are an indicator of where the right-of-way is located. Any property without any of those indicators can look up their property on the county assessor’s website to find out where the property lines are. The City owns the right-of-way, but the property owner is responsible for maintaining it. The City has the right to remove any signs that are in the right-of-way. Anyone with questions may contact City Hall at 386-3111.
