President Donald Trump continues to make trade waves with his latest tariff policies. After announcing billions of dollars worth of tariffs on Chinese imports, lawmakers close to home are concerned and unsure on how to respond. Iowa House District 20 Representative Clel Baudler is one of those lawmakers.
Baudler tells Raccoon Valley Radio there are plenty of developments still to be made before he can make an accurate judgment on the tariffs. However, he is concerned about their effect on Iowa’s commodity markets. “What I’m concerned about is it could affect soybeans and pork right now. We’ll have to see how this thing ends up but it comes down, from where I see it, to fairness.”
The tariffs come shortly after Trump’s tariffs on aluminum and steel imports. To hear more from Baudler on this and other topics in the state legislature, listen to today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
