**Today’s Earlham Early Bird Invitational has been postponed due to weather. The meet is now scheduled for tomorrow afternoon with a 4:30 p.m. start time.**
Today marks the start of the outdoor track season for several of the area’s squads including the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers girls team. The Tigers will open their competition year at the Earlham Early Bird Invitational this evening, and an ADM senior has former ties to Cardinals program. Keaton Kester spent her first two academic years of high school at Earlham Community Schools before transferring to ADM at the start of her junior year. Kester is a two-time defending state champion in the 100 and 200-meter dash, winning the Class 2A championship with the Cardinals in 2016 and the Class 3A titles last spring with the Tigers. Kester sat down with Raccoon Valley Radio last week to discuss her move to ADM Community Schools and other track and field topics. She described last years season with ADM as a thrill. “Meeting new teammates, very kind, positive people, (and it was) a positive, hardworking environment; All the girls were great,” Kester said, “It was a great season, they helped push me to be my best, and I hope I helped them improve too.”
Kester currently holds a pair of Class 3A sprint records at the state meet. Her 100 meter qualifying time of 12.08 seconds last spring was one-tenth of a second faster than her time in the finals. Her 200-meter dash final time of 24.72 seconds is the new state record and is seven-tenths of a second away from tying the all-time mark set by Woodbine’s Debbie Esser in 1975. ADM will compete against athletes from Des Moines East, Earlham, Iowa Christian Academy, Panorama, Saydel Community Schools, Van Meter, and West Central Valley. First events open at 4:30 p.m. from Earlham Community Schools.
