On Monday, two Perry students will be among the select few chosen to participate in the 2018 Individual Speech All-State Festival.

Senior Breanna Penenger and junior Rylynn Gilmore were selected to perform at the festival following the recent State Competition at Nevada High School. Gilmore was chosen for her poetry piece, titled “Awakening,” while Penenger was selected for her solo musical theater piece, “Sixteen Bars.” It was the first All-State Speech selection for either of them. In order to qualify, participants had to receive an overall “I” rating at State, and also receive judge recommendations.

The All-State Festival will be held Monday at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, with the opening ceremonies starting at 8:30 a.m. in the McLeod Center. Gilmore will be performing during the 10-11 a.m. block in the Scholar Space of the Rod Library. Penenger will take the stage in the Bengston Auditorium of Russell Hall during the 11:30-12:30 block. Judge critiques and awards will come at the end of each block. The festival is open to the public, and there is an $8 entry fee which will give you access to every event throughout the day.
