Yesterday’s snow reminded us that although the calendar says it’s Spring, Winter can sometimes be stubborn in giving way to warmer weather. Greene County is in its first season of having its own boys and girls high school soccer programs, and boys’ head coach Carl Behne has some advice for fans. “Definitely dress warm those first few weeks! It’s Iowa, so it could be 75 degrees or it could be 25, do dress for the weather and pay attention to that.”

As far as what fans, especially those seeing high school soccer for the first time can look for, the coach added, “Just the amount of movement that takes place on the field. That might be something first time fans wouldn’t except. There are more goals overall scored in high school soccer than in college or the pros, so fans aren’t going to be bored. There will be  plenty of action. I think fans will be surprised and excited by the amount of action taking place.”

The Greene County girls and boys open their first ever soccer seasons in girl/boy doubleheader fashion vs. Humboldt in Grand Junction on Monday, April 2. The girls play at 4:30 p.m. with the boys to follow. The inaugural soccer action will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
