The Greene County Historical Society and Jefferson Matters: Main Street are hosting a special program tomorrow.
In honor of the Smithsonian Institute’s traveling exhibit, Hometown Teams, due to make a stop in Jefferson later this year, a free program will be held at the historical museum in Jefferson highlighting baseball. The program “How Iowa Met Baseball: The Myths, The History, The Players” will be led by Des Moines Area Community College instructor John Liepa. He taught political science, as well as US and Iowa history courses. He will talk about how baseball first came into the state in 1858, while also bringing to life some of the first players in Iowa. He will also have an extension display of his baseball card and memorabilia collection.
The free program takes place tomorrow at 2pm. It is open to the public.
