Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center students continued to impress experts in scientific disciplines Thursday at the State Science and Technology Fair of Iowa. Sixteen students represented the school at the competition at Iowa State University in Ames. Half walked away with awards.

Overall the students earned $2,100 in scholarships and prize money, and four had top three finishes in their disciplines. Jackie Trujillo-Garcia earned the most recognition for her project, “Biogas: The Future of Energy.” She earned three awards, including: a $1,000 scholarship, the Clean Tech Award and $100, and an Honorable Mention distinction in Energy and Transportation. Also, Sally Jo Geckler received first place in Physics, Emma Vogl received first place in Agriscience, and School Champion Kylie Young received a $1,000 scholarship.

Freshman Jenna Andersen will get to present her project at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in May in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A list of the award winners can be found below:

Mackenzie Campbell- “Left or Right Brain Dominance”: 2nd Place in Behavioral & Social Sciences

Kylie Young- “Fueling the Future”: $1,000 Scholarship
