Monday marks the beginning of the outdoor track season for West Central Valley as they’ll compete in the Earlham Early Bird Invitational. The meet marks the debut of West Central Valley’s first-year high school track coaches Eric Addy and Dave Hammond. Addy, the Wildcats boys track coach, was a guest on Monday’s Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Guthrie County PM Sports and he shared how he and assistant coach Ethan Calvert will attack preparations for next week’s season opener. “The biggest thing is us sitting down and figuring out these puzzle pieces of what events we want to load up, and who do we want in what events,” Addy said, “We don’t have a huge amount of numbers, but we do have a lot of sprinters. (We are thinking) of spreading out and/or loading up one event.”
Addy elaborates that the strength of this year’s group of athletes is in the 200-meter dash. The Wildcats will compete at the Earlham Early Bird Invitational against athletes from Earlham, Grand View Christian, Iowa Christian Academy, Panorama, Saydel Community Schools, and Van Meter.
