The recently retired head football coach at Panorama Community Schools is not done teaching the sport to student-athletes in the area. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network spoke with newly hired Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers head football coach Garrison Carter Wednesday about the team’s full 2018 football schedule and other offseason topics.
Carter shared with us that Lyle Alumbaugh is joining the ADM Football staff this fall as a linebackers coach. “That was one of the first calls I received when I accepted the job at ADM was from Lyle (Alumbaugh) and was actually the first person I met with,” Carter said, “He knew he was going to hang it up at Panorama but wanted to coach a little bit. I’ve known Lyle (Alumbaugh) since I was at Ogden and I think he’s one of the true good game and he’s so good with kids.”
Alumbaugh confirmed his position on the ADM coaching staff Thursday afternoon and says he’s looking forward to working on Coach Carter’s staff. “I asked him what he needed and it looked like something that might fit,” Alumbaugh said, “I’ll be working with the linebackers and just having fun on the defensive side of the ball. It sounds like we got pretty good interest and I know the kids are working hard in the weight room and we’re looking forward to the season.”
Alumbaugh spent 24 seasons with the Panorama football program, including 21 as the head football coach. He posted a career record of 120 wins and 78 losses, registering 20 winning seasons. Carter and Alumbaugh are both current members of the Iowa Football Coaches Associations Board of Directors, making ADM the only program in the state with multiple representing members on the board.
