PerrigoOne of the youngest candidates on the ballot for Iowa’s June Primary elections is hoping to make more of an impact on his district next year. Dodge Perrigo, a 22-year-old farmer from Redfield, will challenge Ray “Bubba” Sorensen for the Republican nomination for the Iowa House of Representatives’ District 20 seat. The recent decline in health insurance providers in the state was what originally sparked Perrigo’s run for the Iowa House.

Perrigo talks about the importance of being politically active at a young age. “I’ve seen a lot of it where people my age just aren’t interested in politics. They don’t pay attention to it and I think that’s something that needs to change because frankly, eventually we’re going to be to the age where we’re handling things and we’re going to be in charge. So we kind of need to know what’s going on.”

Perrigo also tells Raccoon Valley Radio he thinks the state government is generally overspending and underfunding things like education. He also wants to help improve gun safety and gun rights. To hear more from Perrigo listen to tomorrow’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
