The Perry City Council convened Monday evening in regular session.
City Administrator Sven Peterson got the meeting started with an update on the Willis Avenue Bridge project. He said the contractors will begin construction this week, possibly Wednesday, depending on the weather. The project is currently on schedule to be finished in May. Next, the Council held a public hearing to discuss the vacation of property known as 22nd Street. It had been previously vacated, but a few things needed to be cleared up for legal purposes, so it had to be vacated again. No one spoke against the vacation in the public hearing, so once it closed the Council approved a resolution related to it.
In old business, the Council approved a change order and pay request for the sanitary sewer improvement project on 16th Street, as well as the final plat for Plat 3 of the Perry Industrial Park, and a resolution approving the final acceptance and certificate of completion for the sally port project. In new business, they held a great deal of discussion on the Weise Park Trail improvements project. Concerns were raised over the safety of running a bike trail through a heavily trafficked pedestrian trail, and a suggestion was made to reach out to the school to see if Weise Park could be expanded into land currently owned by the District. The topic was tabled until the next meeting, but Peterson will reach out to Superintendent Clark Wicks about the idea.
Finally, the Council approved the reappointment of Bruce Klein to the Planning and Zoning Board of Adjustment for another five-year term. To learn more about the City Council meeting, listen to today’s Perry Fareway Let’s Talk Dallas County program at RaccoonValleyRadio.com.
