The regular season for girls track and field begins Monday in Jefferson at the Greene County Invitational. However, a Charger thrower already has a title under her belt. ACGC junior Madison McDermott had the longest throw in the shot put, winning the Buena Vista Indoor Classic with a launch of 36.5 feet.
McDermott placed 13th at the Iowa State Indoor Classic in Ames last Monday with a throw of 34-10.5. She currently holds the girls record in the shot put with a throw of just over 37 feet last year at the Coon Rapids-Bayard Tom Tipton Invitational. She was also the only Charger to attend the competition. McDermott finished 16th at last year’s Class 2A State meet at Drake Stadium.
