Another opportunity for Greene County School District voters to learn about the $35.48 million project is tomorrow.
The Our Kids, Our Future Greene County Committee has scheduled a series of half-hour informative meetings at the Greene County Community Center tomorrow. Committee Co-Chair Peg Raney says the three-story, over 100-year-old middle school is inadequate for learning, as well as insufficient for all kids, including those with disabilities.
“I have my master’s (degree) in learning disabilities, and I had to learn a lot about this. But the more I worked with kids with learning disabilities, these kids are smart, there’s absolutely no reason why they shouldn’t be a part of the regular classroom. We need to accommodate that with our teaching, also physically (with the building) accommodating that.”
The project includes: a new high school and career academy, a new performing arts center and gymnasium, and renovating the current high school into a middle school for a total of $35.48 million. The school district’s bond referendum is for $21.48 million.
The times that the meetings are scheduled for are: 10am, noon, 2pm and 6pm.
