The last Greene County High School Spring Sports teams begin practice sessions today for the upcoming seasons. Track & field has been going for some time and the Rams have already had three indoor meets. Chad Morton is the boys’ head coach and Derek Merk is heading the program for girls. Carl Behne and the first year boys’ soccer program began practices last Monday. Girls’ soccer head coach Marilyn Tasler conducts the first practice today for the Rams’ first year program. Both golf coaches return with Dave Destival heading the boys’ program and Heath Telleen at the helm of the girls’ program.

The track & field outdoor season is scheduled to begin in just one week, next Monday, March 26 with Greene County hosting it’s Early Bird Meet at Linduska Field in Jefferson. Monday, April 16 is the annual running of the Ram Relays. There are seven meets scheduled for this season at Linduska Field, an usually high number. Part of that is because Carroll’s Athletic Field is being renovated and the April 9 Carroll Coed is being held in Jefferson, as is the Tuesday, May 1 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference meet. Plus, add in middle school meets at Linduska Field and it’s a full home schedule.

The first-ever soccer matches for the Rams are set for Monday, April 2 on the football field in Grand Junction vs. Humboldt. That’s a girl/boy doubleheader beginning at 4:30 for the girls and 6 p.m. for the boys.

The golf teams are also scheduled to start their seasons on April 2 vs. Carroll High. The girls go to Carroll, while the boys’ play at the Jefferson Community Golf Course.
