A group continues to meet for those who have cancer and caregivers to provide support while they are on their journeys.
Greene County Relay for Life Leadership Team member Sharon Stalder says she started the Cancer Support Group as a way to give back to those who have cancer and encourage them.
“So we gather as a group to just encourage and support one another through means of sharing where we are in our stage, if they have upcoming appointments or if we’ve got good results or otherwise. And then we also share healthy lifestyles, we share inspiration. Just a big pat of encouragement comes and people don’t want to miss.”
She adds that even though they meet the third Tuesday every month at 7pm at Christ Lutheran Church in Jefferson, members don’t have to meet each time.
“I always tell people that I’m happy when they come but I’m also happy to know when they’re able to do other things outside of being in our group. If they’ve got grandkids’ ballgames to go to, that’s a plus that there’s a purpose for them and the purpose maybe to attend the meeting, the purpose maybe elsewhere. We’re just happy that people have and are able to participate in our activity as well as other activities.”
She adds that new members are welcome to join.
