Perry senior Mark Campos is not done helping the Bluejay football team.  Even though he has played his final game wearing the Perry pads, Campos is still trying to build enthusiasm for the program with younger hispanic kids around the community.

“I am constantly telling them how much fun football can,” smiled Campos.  “I tell them they need to start in middle school and really start lifting weights and getting stronger.  They seem to be interested when I tell them about the sport and I hope that they will continue to pursue it.”

Hispanic participation in football will be critical for Perry moving forward.  The Bluejays will look to increase participation in the sport as they get set to make the move into the new Dewey Field renovation project.  Campos indicated that the hispanic population simply isn’t familiar with the sport.

“A lot of the younger guys just don’t understand the sport.  I am trying to talk them into trying it because I know once they try it that they will love it.”

Campos is set to graduate this May and will play football for Iowa Western Community College next year.
